In the original version of Flower & Snake (Hana to Hebi, 1974), Shizuka has grown disgusted with her husband and president of a large company, Senzo Toyama. She convinces a maid to have sex with him in her place, to avoid having to do it herself. Eventually Toyoma begins pursuing Shizuka again, but she rebuffs his advances. Angered by the lack of passion in his marriage, Toyoma hires a man named Yoshi to kidnap his wife and train her to be sexually submissive by any means necessary. Yoshi is impotent himself, but sees an opportunity to cure himself through torture and humiliation. With the help of his pornographer mother, he eventually succeeds in training Shizuka to enjoy the combination of pleasure, pain, and humiliation.
