The first thing you'll see in Bareback Riders 2 is a warning screen with a safer sex announcement, and it's the very inclusion of this message that makes my star-rating of the film a bit more generous than the movie rightfully deserves. (The film's press wanted it known that all of the couplings shown here involved guys who were in monogamous committed Right... whatever.)
Yeah, sure, everybody knows barebacking with strangers is ludicrous, but these guys are ostensibly real-live lovers, a notion that ought to mollify anti-barebacking moralists. As evidence, these sexy-in-an-Everyman-sort-of-way guys surely don't look like porn stars. Or behave like porn stars. Maybe these passive couples are a bit too camera-shy but it'd be nice if either of the pairings truly set their sheets on fire. Yeah, sure, they're fucking without condoms and all, but they do it with all the passion of a pair of titmice.
Beyond the yawningly tepid sex, the film further commits the next most unconscionable sin: it's poorly shot and lit. Oh, sure, somebody obviously invested in a lighting rig for the video shoot, but four out of five videographers surveyed recommend you focus a beam of light onto the actual genitals, so that the money shots will be clearly visible instead of being obscured in shadows, as they sometimes are here.
The audio is basically a wall of over-exaggerated ambient noise, moaning and wet smooching sounds and the bumps of the camera being jerked and jostled.
Maybe I've become spoiled by the higher technical standards of other porn companies, but even the thrill of watching dudes screwing other dudes without latex can't compensate for the bargain basement production values here. Or for the desperate lack of heat. Note to Bacchus: cancel the sequel and come up with something that sizzles.
