No sound after download

Hi Im new to downloading these split files and was wondering if anyone can tell me why I have no sound when I play them. It happens for both the .avi files and the rar files I download. I'm using a Mac but do not believe that is the cause. Can some one help me out here?

U need good avi codecs try download divx codecs maybe this help u or file have some error with sound and that why u dont hear anythnig (this happen u with all avi movie or just in this case) ?
