Hotlink images in Chrome

I use Chrome v28 as my browser and for quite a while I haven't been able to click through to any images hosted on PiXhost, imgChill or Stooorage. When I click images stored on those servers I receive a "Hotlinking Forbidden" message. If I copy the link and paste it Firefox the image loads and displays fine so I think it must be a problem with Chrome. I prefer to use Chrome for the auto-sandboxing feature so switching back to Firefox is my last last resort option. I have reset all the Chrome settings to factory defaults and turned off incognito mode but nothing seems to help. I was wondering if anyone else has run across this problem and found a fix because I am stumped. If anyone knows of a magic setting in Chrome to fix this issue please let me know.

Are you using some kind of proxy server? It sounds like a chrome proxy problem...

I use a VPN but not any kind of proxy server. The images load fine when the VPN is running and I copy > paste the url from Chrome to Firefox which is what made me think it was a Chrome issue.

I run with the automatically detect proxy settings box unchecked but when I was troubleshooting I checked it but that didn't help my issue.

After completing additional troubleshooting I solved my problem.

It seems some time ago, because I don't recall doing it, I changed a setting in Script Safe called Referrer Spoof from the default of Off to Same Domain. The affected sites must have made a change recently that didn't like the updated setting which is what caused the hotlink error I received.

The solution probably won't be of much use to anyone else since it's rather obscure but I wanted to report the resolution anyway because it aggravates me when I'm searching for a solution to a problem and I find a dead thread with no resolution. I don't want to be that guy.
