Directed by: Joe Davian Starring: Annie Sprinkle, Red Baron, Cheryl White, Tia Von Davis, Carter Stevens, Lara Christie File size: 631 MB This is a fine example of roughie/hardcore but is too ambitious and ultimately not really able to deliver. Supposedly about voodoo and sexual submission this ends up one big orgy. There are whippings and bondage but neither the cast nor the director seem particularly interested in the theme. So there is too much scrawny scrotum, too much soft d*** and far too much wooden acting. There are, however, some excellent moments and that orgy is something else. Even here, though, it must be said that everybody is far more interested in having a good time than in making a film. So, often the camera angles are obscured or we just miss a slice of the action, but the authenticity and enthusiasm of the participants does compensate. C J Laing and Annie Sprinkle are sadly underused but the rest get plenty of opportunity to show what they are made of particularly a few astonishing moments as Vanessa del Rio shows off her sword swallowing technique. Martine Brochard has a lot of nudes scenes, but Anne Heywood’s could best be described as subliminal. Perhaps most regrettably, Ornella Muti keeps her clothes on, even when the older nuns are “inspecting” her virginity. The two semi-official sequels to this, “Story of a Cloistered Nun” and “The Sinful Nuns of St. Valentine’s”, feature much more copious sex and nudity,including scenes of the young acolytes (Eleanora Giorgi and Jenny Tamburi respectively) getting very naked (and tied-up and whipped, etc.). But for the few fans of these films out there who AREN’T lecherous perverts, this one is probably the most realistic and hard-hitting of the trilogy. It’s definitely worth seeing anyway. Bizarre hallucinations alternate with fairly bloody slasher sequences and the usual softcore grinding. Devotees of the "ghoulie" subgenre of vintage sleaze will appreciate Laszlo Kovasc rather inspired cinematography and some imaginative touches by director William Rotsler. What they may not appreciate is the annoying theme song ("Lila").
