Femalien is probably among the most famous softcore movies to date, thanks to its undeniably campy premise and graphic sex. I don't know, softcore films usually bore me, but there are exceptions (like Staying on Top, The Erotic Witch Project, The Alien Files, Casting Couch) and this is one of them.

Part of the reason's got to be the silly sci-fi premise, which is about a female alien (get it, femalien?!) who comes to Earth to observe humans engage in sexual interaction. The movie doesn't consist of much more than 90 minutes of this femalien (played by Venesa Talor), calling herself Kara in a hilariously dumb scene, watching people have sex while getting off on it, even occasionally joining in on the fun. Well, okay, there is the subplot with the chick named Sun (Jacqueline Lovell) who owns a diner that's about to be shut down by a guy who owns a massaging company, but it pretty much exists only as a set-up for Talor and Lovell to get it on.

Femalien has a pretty decent sense of humor, which also places it above most films of its kind. Yeah, the jokes are silly, but they have a unique charm that works in its favor (and Venesa Talor is so gosh-darned gorgeous, you can't help but get sucked in by her character's naiveté). The production values are also quite pleasing, with decent-looking sets, excellent lighting, and solid photography.

There are numerous sex scenes in this film, so I'll give a rundown of the highlights. Let's see, there's the sexy photoshoot segment, with hottie Holly Hollywood. The other standouts include Venesa Talor's two love scenes, there's the first one with the guy in the diner and it's one of the best sex scenes I've seen, directed in a fashion that makes it both incredibly hot and romantic at the same time (the pleasing score helps, as well). There's also a very explicit love scene with Jacqueline Lovell, which is so graphic, I could almost swear they were really going at it. Nice. Watching Talor masturbate is another strong highlight, she really looks into it. As a whole, Femalien boasts more sex and nudity than most other softcore flicks I've seen. The usual movie in the genre usually devotes about a half-hour of screen time to the good stuff, but over 2/3's of Femalien's screen time typically features a hot woman in the nude or engaging in a hot love scene.

Performances are actually pretty decent considering the genre. Venesa Talor, in particular, excels as the hottie alien. It's got to be the naive and cheerful way she approaches every situation, which makes her an immensely charming and appealing character. She's also one of the hottest women I've ever seen, at times even resembling a young Elizabeth Taylor (but even sexier). Yeah, she's had work done on her breasts, but I for one think they look great and at any rate, are far more of a turn on than the ludicrous basketballs on Shauna O'Brien's chest. Venesa's also got one of the most adorable voices I've ever heard, so she's both a pleasure to stare at and listen to. In fact, some of the movie's best scenes are those that just feature Venesa casually lingering in the nude, whether it's out of plain naiveté (like in the massage scene) or after a bout of pleasurable sex. She just seems so comfortable with her body, moreso than most other softcore actresses.

Femalien sure isn't a good movie, not by a long shot, but it's an enjoyably silly one that can be easy to take thanks to non-stop sex and nudity. There's also a sequel, but I have yet to see the uncut version of it (which sort of defeats the purpose of watching softcore), though I clearly remember Venesa was barely in it, and that could only hurt the movie.

Noble Lady: Bound Vase Movie Summary:

With Pinku director Masaru Konuma in command (Wife to be Sacrificed, Woman in a Box and Flower and Snakes), Noble Lady: Bound Vase exploit a respectable level of SM and sexual humiliation. Added to this is participation of Naomi Tani in the main role, who as long reached the cult status of ?bondage queen? in Japanese cinema.

Set in 1928, Noble Lady Bound Vase tells the story of Naniji (Naomi Tani) who was sold by her father to a wealthy land owner in order to pay off his depts. But we very soon discover that Naniji?s husband is a depraved and perverted man, who?s into bondage, torture and humiliation (for the viewer?s excitement). She assumed her wife?s role but without any enjoyment while her husband only take advantage of her as he likes. Six months passes and the husband?s nymphomaniac sister comes for a visit and she begin to spy on the couple?s relationship when she catches Nanji passing a message to a lover via one young male housekeeper. The sister than tattle the whole story to her brother, and both wife and the young man are captured. This will lead to a series of sexual humiliation. Later, since Nanji doesn?t want to show any remorse for act her husband invite the presumed lover to witness the shameful punishments he?s been inflicting to his wife.

Although not that innovative in both the execution or in the torture department, Noble Lady Bound Vase manages and succeeds in mixing-up the audience feelings throughout the film. For instance, we do want the bad husband to be punished or the passionate lover to finally get Naniji for wife but none of this happen (or barely) instead, Konuma decides to confront the spectator and force him to eventually like his so detestable villains and have pity and admiration for them.
Another aspect of the film I can?t neglect is the symbolic use of monkeys. Naniji?s husband hysterically yells at her lover (who can?t let go of her and still wants to marry her): ?That?s good! Then you?ll have a monkey wedding!? From there, chaos once again surface as Naniji?s husband interrupt the wedding to drag his wife outside in the rain and have sex with her tied to a post, all this with the poor lover left watching. The monkeys are always shown alone and observing human behaviors, we can see them watching the husband having sex with his wife and later looking at the young servant masturbating. But those monkeys ultimately end up together in a cage in one of the house?s room (the same room and cage where Naniji and the servant were kept and tortured). The other interesting aspect is that we can clearly see that they are tied to each other by a red ribbon, the same ribbon that we see hanging from that same room window. Here the monkeys could be interpreted as a direct reflection of the couple relationship, their fate is finally linked as they are no longer learning but instead accomplice to each other.

In itself, despite some rather strong scenes of bondage, Noble Lady Bound Vase has a somehow interesting way of depicting the quiet and peaceful countryside. Konuma first show the natural calmness of it, but later make us discover the rudeness and weirdness of its people (a mentally challenged young pregnant woman, the perverted neighbors, a sadistic servant, etc). It is also quite interesting to see how the director manipulates the image of the typical countrymen and makes us believe that they are over-traditional people who still live by the codes and laws of Edo period. Again, all this for the viewer?s pleasure.

The Eighteen Carat Virgin Movie Summary:

A young Scandinavian woman (Ana-Grete Nissen) is concerned that she is frigid, so she consults a young male doctor who prescribes a highly unorthodox and unprofessional(but pretty predictable) solution to her problem. After his ?hands-on? approach brings her some definite sexual satisfaction, he recommends that she continue her ?explorations? by taking a long road trip where, naturally, she is to have sex with all, um, comers that she meets along the way. This leads to straight sex scenes, lesbian sex scenes, three-way sex scenes, and at least one hilarious S-and-M sex scene. These sex scenes are ridiculously numerous, but they are also quite fast-paced, making this movie a little more exciting than most tedious softcore grinders. Like a lot of 70?s Swedish actresses, Nissen is quite appealing simply because she looks like a normal girl rather than the well-worn Times Square skanks you tend to find in a lot of American softcore films of that era (and she?s obviously more girl than silicone, unlike pretty much all the ?adult? actresses of today).
