Server issues and software upgrades

Well, the forums have grown quite popular while I have been working on other projects. The servers are now working on a way too high load, and then the database servers are not replicating fast enough. I therefore have started the process of setting up new and more powerful servers, and the new custom built machines will be delivered in less than two weeks...

Anyway, it might take some time to complete this upgrade. This is because we are experiencing some software issues at the same time (table locking in MySQL is making the web-servers go down while the database-servers update). We somehow need to convert the post and threads tables to InnoDB, but this will break the search engine used by the current version of our forum software. I am therefore considering upgrading the forum software to version 4, and start using a search engine based on Sphinx. Time will show....

I am really sorry for the trouble these issues cause our users. We will soon be back up to speed.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have some experience with high scale SQL-hosting, and would like to be hired in as a consultant...

Things are looking much better now, though we might experience some seconds of delay when the posting bots "attack" us. We will see what happens when we open up for new member registrations again...

The next step will be to upgrade the forum software, and eventually get a full server rack and a load balancer for this site.

And yes, I somehow managed to crash the database into an unrepairable state. Some posts did not make it to the backup. Please just post again...
